8th December - Meditation

“Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. But the angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John. He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord.” Luke 1: 11-15

Reflection - Can it be true – can there be hope after all the tears and years? How can it be true, how can we know for sure and be certain? Can our dreams and prayers be answered or is it just wishful thinking.
Zechariah had prayed for a life time and now before him, finally, he sees the fulfillment. He thought his life was set and he was sure it would not happen if it had not happened at the moment – everything was pointing a different way. The God intervenes – praise God.

Prayer - Praise be to you O God. God of our plans and dreams God of our desires and longings. Praise be to you O Lord God, the God of Israel, the God of the Gentile, the God of all people and all nations: you alone have done marvellous things.
In our fears and anxieties In our doubts and desperation may we know you as God, Lord, Redeemer and Comforter. Amen
