14th December - Meditation

"How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?" The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God." Luke 1: 34-37

Reflection - You have got to be joking. I wonder if that could have been a modern day paraphrase of what May as thinking. But HOW, Why, What? Talk about being taken by surprise. It is not I/ we who pray but the Spirit of God who prays in me. When God himself through his Spirit dwells within there is nothing to strange, nothing too remote, nothing to painful that it cannot contain. Every time we allow God to work in our lives nothing will ever be the same again. Once in a while we really know it. God hears our prayer, our cries, he himself prays for us and touches us with his love – not tomorrow, not yesterday but right now.

Prayer - Psalm 8
How great is your name, O Lord our God,
through all the earth.
You have made us little less than gods,
with glory and honour you crowned us.
gave us power over the works of your hand,
Put all things under our feet.
