20th December - Meditation
His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied: "Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come and has redeemed his people. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David. Luke 1: 67-69
Reflection - Zechariah like others in the bible such as Hannah, Anna and Mary responded to the message of God with such beauty and poetic language. His prayer of praise overflowed from a deep relationship with God.
Zechariah’s tongue is loosed and he sings the second song of the New Testament. God is blessed. God is praised. All glory and honour are to God is how his song begins. The first time we hear this song of praise is Abraham’s servant when he meets Rebekah who will be Isaac’s wife. Zechariah’s song continues quoting Old Testament verses of praise and honor to God who redeems his people.
Prayer - Powerful God
As Zechariah was confronted with God's truth spoken by Gabriel, help me be to understand the truth of your word. Help me, like Elizabeth and Zechariah, to respond to your word believing in your goodness. As I await your coming may my voice and life overflow with your goodness and may I sing your praise. Amen
